CARBONDALE, Illinois ~ The Carbondale Mat Makers have made about 26 mats from plastic shopping bags for people who are homeless.

Here, they demonstrate the process, a labor-intensive process that they have broken down into steps; they say it can take a week;s worth of crocheting to complete a mat that is six-feet-long by three-feet wide.
